I have talked to a buddy and he has a 66-67 Merc 410 that he is willing to part with, would that be a better choice yet? It is also out of the car and ready to rebuild. As far as how I drive my other truck is a 78 Ford F 150 with a 460 bored .030, balanced, L and L long tube headers, Edelbrock Performer, 770 Holley, Accel Duraspark replacement Dizzy,.525 lift Hyd cam and lifters, Cloyes True Roller,Hi volume oil pump, C-6 auto with a 3:50 Ford Locker rear axle. I don't drive fast or get tickets. I do like to have the get up and go when I need it. Thanks to every one for their advice.
^^ do as HIO says and you will see that a 360 isn't as bad as everyone makes them out to be i have had my 360 to 130 mph and get on avg 16 mpg only thing i have over HIO's list is some home ported heads a 2" aluminum spacer and screen under my 650 holley and 2.78 gears in my 9" my old 360 is no slouch either with the high gears and all i work her hard and she refuses to quit
I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but I do have a question. I noticed that you said that you have a screen under your carb? I'm wondering what the screen is for and what is it made of?
emission equipment ? on a 69 should only have a pcv valve
it's a turd due to the low C/R if i remember right 172hp lol
They used a low lift cam and advanced it a couple degrees in the grind, which combined with the lower compression was supposed to reduce NOx emissions. That's why they are called a smog motor. The problem is, they dump out HCs and CO like it's some new trend, and get terrible mileage because of it.
Advance the cam, with a bit more aggressive of a profile for mid-range torque, and it'll come to life.

No you should forget about the 410 and donate it for the next motor in the 77
