VIN vs. Visual
Hello All,
I have what I was told is a 1970 F-250. The VIN confirms that as well.
My biggest head-scratcher is that both license plates are from 1968 (black w/ yellow lettering), but do match up on the DMV slips.
Could anyone explain?

Are your plates black with yellow letters/numbers? California plates ran in series in those days.When a combination of letters/numbers ran out they started another series. 1968 could have been the last time a new series started.
I don't think Ford built a factory f250 stakebed, if you check the fordification website they have the 1970 sales brochure which clearly shows only the f350 available as a factory stakebed.
Your vin doesn't show the color or trim level although that info is on the warranty plate.

Compare the VIN on the registration with the "VIN" on the Warranty Plate to see if they match.
VIN on Warranty Plate is known as the Warranty Number. FoMoCo says it's not for title or registration purposes, at it's too EZ to change.
People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
No such thing as 1968 black plates, as these plates were introduced in 1963.
Black non commercial plates were issued from 1963 thru 1968.
Black commercial plates were issued from 1963 thru 1970 and on some early 1971's.
Early black plates have 1963 embossed on them.
