no mess oil filter removal

here is a trick i learned to take off an oil filter in a 86 302. take a large peaches can (4" x 4 3/4 ,cut out the bottom(so you now have a pipe) loosen the filter, slide the can over it until it contacts the engine.your filter will stick out the end of the can enough to get a grip and take it off. all the oil will run down the inside of the can and thru the large hole in the crossmember,and into your drain pan.

You know, this could also work on equipment like riding mowers with spin-on oil filters which dump all over the frame while being removed!

Rep'd - great tip

As for ride on's and similar, I just use my vacuum brake bleeder to suck the crankcase dry, then you only get a few drops from the filter.
