Hey everyone I just bought a 97 f250hd in beautiful shape but she isn't running too smooth and I can't get it through emissions. I've replaced and checked every part emissions related I can think of and it's still not running right. Now a guy I work with was having the same sort of trouble and it ended up being his ecm. Now my question is could I use the ecm out of a 95 bronco I have to see if that's the problem? It has the same engine and I believe the same tranny. Any info would be greatly appreciated because I would really like to be driving a legal truck.
I did a full tuneup and then some. New map sensor, egr vacuum solenoid, o2 sensor and the list goes on. I checked for codes both koeo and koer and didn't come up with anything. Also I checked and the egr is good and the engine holds 20 in of vacuum all day long. Oh and it's a 351w with an e4od
A little back story to what's going on. I'm dealing with the infamous Windsor engine low idle stumble. A Ford fanatic friend and I have been running in circles trying to figure this thing out and no matter what we do it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I've had moments where it's definitely running better but then 10 minutes later it's worse and today at emissions it developed a little lope to the idle out of nowhere. Now I've owned a couple older fords where the ecm was on the way out and they started acting funny like this truck is hence the reason why I'd like to try changing the ecm I just don't know what's compatible with my truck considering it's over 8500gvw.
