Have a 90 f150 5.8 and Was checking my tps and map sensors and the voltage supply from pcm was 6-7 and its only supposed to be 5 do i have a short or is it still ok didn't want to fry any of those sensors I think my tps went bad already
Yes that is too high. As you say it should be 5.0 Volts DC.
It does not sound good for the Computer but it may be you will just have to replace the Caps in it to get the 5 volt supply working OK.
I got a code for low voltage on tps 63 I think and the voltage was higher then 5 so I decided to check another sensor map was easily accessible so that's why I have a new tps sensor. But not installed yet. Where are these capacitors at? I figured if it was a short it would be the higher then 7 volts. Any way to test these capacitors are they easy to replace?
Here's what I found theres 3 blue ones here's the pic of two of them some black and blue acid . So this little bit would mess everything up ? I just replace these with the same type type it had before any other special requirements they have to be?
Ok I already found one of them on amazon with same uf and voltage I don't see anywhere it ate threw but I'll clean the old acid off thanks for the help
The voltage you are testing is VREF (voltage reference I think) from the PCM and like everyone else said, it shouldn't be higher than 5. If it is, something in the PCM isn't right. That's just a little background, sounds like you are on the right track to fixing it.
