Well I bought an 87 F250, 6.9idi ZF5 4x4 reg. cab and insurance for it with a flatbed is $50 a year so I'm building a flatbed with a bale spear!
My design has 4" channel iron main beams running front to back and 3" channel iron running across on 20" centers. Then down the center a 60"x12" channel 7" deep in the floor for my hydraulic cylinder and gooseneck hitch to hide away, this isn't described well but it will make sense with pictures.
I'll get a picture of my design and pictures of my progress posted soon

Sounds cool. Definitely threthrow some pics up off design and the truck. Since your taking it off, would you give me first crack at the old bale spear and flatbed? I'm interested. PM me
So, I have the 3" channel welded to the 4" main beams and am ready for the plate that the gooseneck hitch and hydraulic cylinder sit in. I'm waiting on some 9/16" plate to come in from our local CAT shop. While I am waiting I have got the Diamond plate skin cut for the top and back of the bed. Just so you guys know I'm building this in my welding class at school so progress comes every other day during the school week.
That's a great job! That's the way we do all the filler necks on the farm trucks that have flat beds and it is the way that works the best. Anything else and you need to carry a block of wood to drive up on every time you get fuel. You need to go into business building those beds!
Thanks guys! I'm glad someone else likes it too. I don't think I would want to do this as a business though, it was a lot of hard work but it was worth it
complete rear view, I made sure I could still use the sliding back glass with the headache rack
