If you've looked at my 57 4x4 F600 in my gallery, it's obvious that I like stakebed trucks. My current project is a 48 F1, and I'm going with, of course, a stakebed. The stock ones are great, but I'd like to do a different design of a stakebed, incorporating some tool storage, rear wheel tubs, and fuel tank access that would allow a much larger tank. A class 3 hitch and a bumper sytem all integrated would also be on the agenda. If there is something already made out there on the market that includes all this, I'd be interested in seeing that, but just some already done owner built stuff would be very interesting to see.
I've looked at most of the stakebeds in the gallery .... may have missed a few, but still am looking for more ideas.
Any references would be most appreciated. The finished design I will post here eventually as a CAD file but in the photo gallery. That might help a few others then.
that is one awsome 57. i think i might have drooled on the keyboard. im going with a flatbed on my 59 but im modifying one my friend has. i was thinking about adding a toolbox between the tire and the back of the cab. are you planning to use wood plank or a all steel or maybe aluminum diamond plate one. i dont have any pictures of the one im using for my 59 but my 64 has one too but its just a crude built ranch one. flatbeds look good on trucks and add to the usability of them as you dont have to worry about dinging up the bed. i think flatbeds should be standard on trucks.
I'm building my flat bed this spring when I get the truck back from storage. I have thought about alot of the same ideas also. I built my base from to incorporate a headacke rack into it. i have diamond plate to go around the sides creating a skirting that hangs down about 6" and covers the top only 4". thought about doing the entire thing in diamond plate and cuttin hinged doors to boxes under the bed. also have a receiver hitch hidden behind the rear diamond plate. I'll have to try to get some pics as soon as I get it out of storage. Oh alsot he headacke rack is covered in diamond plate expect for where the rear window is, it's cut out with expanded steel there.
Jim, you first need to upload the picture off your computer to a public server such as FTE by creating a gallery in your control panel. The rest of us can't access your computer to look at a pic residing there. Go to the top of this page and click the first tab "User CP" in the blue band, follow the links to edit/create a gallery and follow the directions. Once you have it in a gallery you can link to it here.
Thats what I want to put on the back of the f-6 with short side boards to haul whatever I buy from nationals back. I will also haul anything back for whoever needs me to from nationals.
Ohio Convoy....away.....I am sending in my registration today. Just came in the mail! I have an extra if someone needs me to send it to them.
Wow... nice work guys. Thanks for the photos of the stakebeds. Some very nice stuff there. The yellow lift bed one has my attention for sure. I assume it is in the gallery? Somehow I missed that one. Whose gallery has it? I'd like to see more of that one.
