That's just the engine serial. See the 3D in the first pic? In front of that is a "7."
7.3D = 7.3L Diesel

That plug with the two exposed wires is the tach sensor. You're going to want to either replace it or seal the wires up so they can't touch each or or ground out on the sensor head.

The mystery wire goes to the engine temp light sensor/switch at the front of the head above the exhaust, picture below. If you have an aftermarket gauge installed in that port that's why the wire is loose.
