Over the past few months I have noticed an ad for a " Ford Power Chip " from gfchips.com as this page opens. The chip is $69, and claims, with a money back guarantee, to add 60HP and up to 4-7MPG gain with additional fuel savings. I have two questions: Has anyone installed this or any other chip to enhance performance in an ecoBoost? Does installation of a chip like this void your original warranty? It sounds too good to be true for $69.....
Looking at their site, it looks like they make generic "chips" across all brands/applications. If you are serious about aftermarket tuning, it is worth starting a relationship with the tuner company to assure it will meet your needs. There are plenty out there that will give more 1 on 1 service and be there to support you with issues. That's just my .02
I also call 4-7MPG gains as BS. If ford could have done that from the factory with tuning (safely) they would have, especially with the MPG wars between companies. I just don't see that happening without sacrificing longevity/safety, etc...
For $69 it's probably one of those fancy looking boxes that wires into the MAF. They alter the reading and the pcm adjusts the fuel mixture accordingly. There is absolutely no magic to it and as robbgt said if it was really that easy Ford would have already set it up that way.
I tried one on a weak moment of common since. I played hell getting my money back.Their customer service said some trucks just don't respond and to give it more time to adjust. After 3 weeks later and 3,000 miles, I sent it back even though they said I didn't give it a chance to work.
