After doing some searching I couldn't find any information on the forum. When I'm running the rear tank there is this humming sound, I have pin-pointed it to the rear tank because it goes away when I switch tanks. It does this when its full or near empty. Nothing has come of it truck still runs and burns fuel just wanted to see if anyone has had this happen. Is this an early indication of my rear fuel pump going on me?
Ok thanks for the info. It just started was my only concern. It's not too loud just was a new sound I hadn't heard before. My 90 F150 never made this sound in the years I owned it.
Actually, if you never heard the pump before and you're now hearing it, it probably is on it's way out. If I were you, I would carry a replacement around or save me the aggravation of a road-side repair (even though when it dies it will probably do at a parking spot) and replace it when I have a moment. Of course, it all depends on the age of your current pump. Anyway, sometimes when the pump is about to completely fail it gives a few warnings, like failed starts and engine deaths, and you can just hit under the truck at the fuel tank to get it un-stuck and at least drive home, a couple of firm whacks at the fuel tank should suffice.
I do have two tanks that both currently work and never drain one I always leave about $10 in the empty tank and when I fill up I alternate to keep the gas fresh as I don't drive this truck but one or two days a week I have two other vehicles.
