You might be able to rent one at a local parts store or harbor freight sells them. I just bought a snap-on with the glowplug adapter for about $230.

Unless you have one of the few surviving OEM black CPSs, that's pretty much normal.

The percent change in rotational velocity for 3 is between 2.5 and 3.8 and for 8 it's 2.3 to 3.9 does this give any information?

IIRC, the CCT uses those numbers to determine pass/fail, so they don't really mean much. Is there any misfire when it's cold? You can try a couple of (free) things to try to help diagnose it. Pull the valve covers with the engine cold. Start it and one at a time disconnect and reconnect the injector solenoids to see if any of them make less difference in the way it runs. Disconnecting a bad one may also reduce or clear up the smoke.

You can also check manifold temperatures with an infrared thermometer. Cold readings compared to the others indicate a cylinder that isn't contributing much.

Neither of these necessarily indicate a bad injector, but it is a possibility. It could also be low compression.

How many miles are on the injectors? How cold has it been where you are? If you do decide to pull the valve covers, and feel ambitious, you could check the armature plate to poppet body assembly clearances with feeler gauges. All you'd need to do is remove the solenoid and spacer under it and check the clearance. A new injector would have about .004" clearance. I have some injectors that are not firing until the oil temp comes up to about 90F, and the clearance on those is .0015" or less.

That is a PCM read only memory (ROM) code. It trips when there is a short to the PCM or loss of ground. Have you had the PCM out of the truck or unhooked the ground to the batteries recently?

I've never seen a P0605 code from disconnecting batteries. The one I remember seeing is Keep Alive Memory error, P0603. Are you sure it wasn't that one? The only cause I can find for P0605 is "internal PCM failure." Do you have a chip/tuner installed? If you've cleared the codes, did it come back?

- ECM/PCM calculation function is malfunctioning. – ECM/PCM memory system is malfunctioning. – ECM/PCM self shut-off function is malfunctioning
Causes Causes of the OBD-II code P0605
- ECM/PCM Harness power supply circuit is open or shorted – ECM/PCM Harness ground supply circuit is open or shorted – ECM/PCM may be faulty The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Thats the description I am getting. I thought maybe it could come from unhooking. I have never gotten it to myknowledge. It looks more likely that there is a short in the harness based on this description.
