Im having the typical shifting problems on my '11 F250 that I bought used in Nov. when I bought it I had no problems, took it to the dealer this jan to have a leaking radiator replaced under the extended warranty I bought. while it was at the dealer I have them do a reflash to update the computer, since than it has started the hesitation when shifting from 1-2 and now also 2-3. Now it only does this in the morning after it has sat over night, its only the first shifts and then its fine after that for the rest of the day. I have since deleted all after treatment and installed an H&S mini max race tuner. It wouldn't bother me much but sometimes that first shift in the morning is a long hesitation followed by a hard slam into the next gear.
my question is what can the dealer do now since I have installed the tuner? do they need to access through the OBD2 port and if so how can they do that with the tuner on? I do not want to have to put the EGR, exhaust and DEF tank back on to let the dealer look at it. when I got the truck back from the dealer and it started shifting funny I figured it was in the process of relearning, but this has not lasted almost 3 months and im tired of it. I deleted everything when the dealer said my EGR cooler was clogged and wanted $1800 to replace and warranty would not cover that. truck has 118,000 miles on it, other than the shift it runs great
1. Are you running the H&S transmission tuning or Fords? If you are running Ford's, try the H&S transmission tuning before anything else. It solved the majority of my shifting issues.
2. If they plug into your OBDII port and flash anything, you have a major issue. You have to return the truck to stock before they can do anything to the truck, which is going to involve reinstalling the emissions equipment. This sounds like it might be an issue if your EGR cooler was clogged. I do know another guys truck was DOA in a Ford service bay because they flashed his truck that was tuned. It was a nightmare with H&S and a new PCM to get the truck running again on the owners dime.
I have been running the H&S tunes the whole time, this issue only started after I had Ford reflash for updated software on the comp. didn't have any problems for the 2 months I drove it before. I was planning on doing an oil change and filter soon, but since this only happens once in the morning then is good for the rest of the day I cant see it being an old oil issue, towing with it is no problem
There is a tsb to have some shift solenoids changed, I wonder if they could do the change with you staying tuned....
I have seen this, not sure if I should try to approach the dealer to get it done and tell them that when they did the flash it caused the problem and I have since tuned it while still having the problem
I had almost the reverse experience with my trans shifting issues.....
When I brought it in to address it, and knowing what I've read about the reflash update, I started mentioning that to my service writer, and he all but cut me off "no, it's the solenoids, we've done hundreds of 'em"
So that perplexes me- why'd your trans start acting up after a reflash, and my local dealer wanted nothing to do with reflashing to fix the issue?
Maybe my truck was updated by the PO some thousands of miles ago, and then here shortly into my ownership, the solenoids started acting up as a result???
The "what's right is right" side of me wants to say your repair ought to be fixed/approved regardless of tune, it's a known issue, but unless you're on awesome terms with your local dealer, and maybe even if you are, Ford can still make the final call and deny your warranty coverage.
There are all kinds of protocols and screen-grabs and backup they have to document, to get reimbursed for warranty repairs....
You stated that you were running H&S tunes is all, so that is what prompted me to ask if you were running the transmission tunes as they are separate from the engine tunes. I know a lot of people that are running the H&S engines tunes, but don't realize that H&S has transmission tunes as well. Sorry for my question. Good luck

when I loaded the tune, I was asked if wanted to tune the transmission at that time, I clicked yes so Im assuming that would mean it loaded the H&S tune? I have no problem replacing the solenoids myself if they are cheap, Ill take a look around. I have a lift in my garage so swapping them out an changing fluid an filter are no problem.
What are the symptoms of the shifting issue? My '11 F350 shifts slow between 1-2 & 2-3 with obvious and noticeable depowering during the shift. I haven't had it at the dealer to ask about it. I notice it when pulling away from a stop sign without a heavy foot, seems to occur most on right hand turns.
I had the solenoid TSB performed 20,000 miles ago at 25,000 miles, and it only helped for a very short time. I paid extra to have new tranny fluid and a filter put in at the same time. I still get the herky jerky 2-3 shifts. Hope it works better for you.
I have actually had this "shifting flare" issue for a few months. First I thought it was the torq converter just heating up but a few weeks ago the tranny started to have real hard downshifts that literally jerked like I hit something.
So being out of warranty,111k miles, I contacted Ford for assistance since the dealer quoted about $600 for the repair and they told me they issued the TSB to make service repairman aware of the issue. Since Marchare011 said he had it done about 20k miles ago I wondered if my truck has had it done within the past 24 months? I bought my truck last October at 99k miles. Theoretically if it had the work done then it should be covered by Fords extended 24 months parts warranty and should be fully covered? In theory anyway. Anyone know about this? So I emailed the lady back at Ford and am awaiting a response. Does anyone know if there is a way to see all repair work done by Ford within the 100k mile warranty? The part that needs replacing is an electronic pressure solenoid BC3Z 7G383 U.
