Hey guys
I've been having trouble with my 99 f250 starting. When I try to start to start the truck it just cranks and pours black smoke. After cranking for a few minutes it will start but has rough idle with lots of black smoke. When the truck warms up the rough idle goes away. With the black smoke to me that means it is getting fuel so I don't know if it's a compression issue or what.. Any help would be appreciated!
A good comparison of to how it's acting is if the truck was being started in cold temps . It lopes and shakes like crazy. If I try to drive it before it has harmed up completely there is hardly any pedal. The temps here are staying above 50.
I'd start by checking uvch. It's the wiring harness that runs under the valve cover gasket. If you pull the connector (4 of them)off the outside and there is oil, you may have a problem. But if you do a search on how to test uvch you should be able to narrow it down. The oil would only be a visual indication, you will need a meter to test properly.
come on down to the 99-03, 7.3L forum. I believe there are 2 cold start/hard starts threads on the first page alone. Read/browse those so you will have at least an idea of how to or what to start asking questions about. It is hard to understand advice offered (specifically on the internet)until you have at least a little knowledge or understanding about the issue you are trying to fix. Where are you located? We also like to help out in person if the opportunity arises.
Thanks I'll check the uvch an get back to you. Ya I thought I posted in a 7.3 section last time but the sites all different on my phone and had trouble navigating. I'm located bout 30 min. South of St. Louis mo
I did the resistance test and it came back fine. I just got done taking the valve covers to inspect the wires. The wires seem to be in good condition. Any other ideas?
