Good looking '48, but...

So this is a good looking truck - BUT - I have no earthly clue as to what the heck is going on under the dash. I need the smarter folk to tell me what is taking the space normally used for a heater box.

Looks like a nice truck but I really don't like it when they tout about it being the nicest truck and all original. There are some things on it that aren't original. I would like it if the seller would say it was restored with some improvements or slight modifications. I just feel they aren't being totally honest. They most likely wouldn't get it past truck nuts like us but they could get some one less knowing to think it's all original.

I'm with you Bob. For a truck that was carefully housed an well tended, why wouldn't the bed still have the original metal? What happened to the original heater box? At least the flattie is intact and it looks to have stock sheet metal.

I have never seen a heater like that one but if it was mine I would put a screen over the inlet to the squirrel cage. I like it that my grandkids have all of their fingers and that open hole looks too inviting for small hands.

I agree that the heater isn't anywhere close to stock or even period correct aftermarket. And yes, firstrider could have helped him with the right one. His website says that he sold it but doesn't say for how much.

The flathead appears to be a 49 or later. The water outlet on a 48 and earlier exits from the center of the head and although you can't see it clearly, it looks like a later distributor too. None of that is bad, just not original.

Not true for the trucks. Ford started using the 8BA/8RT style engines on the trucks in 1948. If we were talking about the cars, you'd be right.

Might just be me, but what is so hard about getting a correct metal line from the fuel pump to carburetor? Rubber lines makes it look (slightly) like any ol' modern car.

What the hell is that ? Never seen one of those .Looks like some honky after marrket heater w/ a '48-'50 blower motor housing grafted onto the side of it .The heater must have some grill on the bottom for heat exit because the fan needs to blow against it to extract the heat from the core .It could have come from a '48 early '50's car also .The blower motor housing is quite similiar ..See you all in Ohio for Truckstock .Will bring some heater boots .
