Heater Ideas

What are people using for a heater in their truck? I have a small Vintage Air unit that I was planning on using, but if there is anything that will look somewhat stock I would rather have that.

If interested I have an original heater that I believe is correct for your truck. I have had it stored for years. Contact me back channel if interested. What are you looking for?

I'm using a small 12V box heater made by the Hupp company in my 48. I've had it for years so I don't remember where I got it. It has a door in the front which can be opened for more heat and holes on the sides where defroster duct hoses can be attached. You can buy a small box heater from places like JC Whitney and others for around 75 bucks. These are the same heaters you used to buy from them for $29.95...inflation is a bitc....

I too would be very interested in knowing what most people are using for heaters as well.

Are most people using their stock/original heater and finding them adequate? (Particularly people in the northern states/Cda. Knowing somebody in Calif is using their stock heater doesn't really seem to be that resounding an endorsement (if you know what i mean).....

Hi!
I live in Sweden and use my truck all the year around. Sometimes it´s very cold and I use the original fresh air heater. It´s very good and the temerature in the cab is fantastic for an old truck like this. I was thinking of using an extra ford recirc. heater and place it under the seat but it was not necessary. I do use some extra insulation in the roof and under the carpet(about ½ inch thick) and have door panels which makes it warmer in the cab.
Good luck!!!

Fergie,
still using the original heater. I took it apart, cleaned it up, had a electronics teacher at my school look at teh blower motor. I painted it, put it back together and it is great. Two winters ago it was so hot I had to turn it off or open windows, then I replaced my thermostat which was not working and now not as hot but still good enough.

I have a fresh air heater, just put in a new motor (12v), but now my heater core is leaking. I am sure it can be repaired, but has anyone found a reasonably priced replacement. My measurements (for the heater core) are 2 1/2 x 9 x 6 1/2. I looked at similar years both cars and trucks and the closest I have seen is a 65 mustang, slightly smaller with shorter inlet/outlets.

It's good to hear that it works well, it gets cold in Minot ND!

Take your core to a radiator shop where they can match it up or make you a new one.

Mine's a fresh air heater, the name of which, I'm sure, was on the missing plate over the end of the blower motor shaft. It's identical to the ones discused here a few months ago, something Aire, I think. Anyway, it uses just the factory knockouts and works well with no interference from me.

Have the original and just finished cleaning and painting mines...have to knock-out the holes and run the lines....hopefully I won't need it in HELLPASO, TX this winter...usually around the 45-60s during the winter months.... :-)

I have an original fresh air heater for mine.

I got it from a nieghbors parts truck and completely sand blasted it inside and out . I then painted it inside and out using crinkle paint on the outside. The motor was the wrong unit for this heater. It was a 12v unit but it rotated the wrong way! I bought a replacement (permanent magnet) motor from National Auto Parts for about $50. I also had to resolder the core to fix a leak. (It holds 20 PSI now).

After sandblasting and painting it now looks brand new. I'm going to use it until I do the complete restoration...then I'm going to replace it with an Antique/Vintage Air etc system.

If you can find one of these fresh air heaters I would go that way. I really like the fresh air heater over the recirculating model.

Cheers,

Rick

Brian, you have the recirulating heater and yes it is original. They paint up real nice. I think they look better than the Fresh Air heater which were in the Deluxe cabs or bouhgt as an option.

Look at my gallery to see mine after I painted it.
