With a D8VE casting number prefix, it's not a 302 from any year Lincoln.
How many valve cover bolts does it have? Where is the fuel pump mounted? To the timing cover or to the engine block?
302 introduced in new 'downsized' Lincoln/Continental Mark VI in 1980. Since D8VE is a 1978 casting number prefix, this 302 (if that's what it is), didn't come from a Lincoln.
1978 Lincoln/Continental Mark V came with a 400 or 460. 1979 came w/a 400 only. But this isn't a 460 as the casting number prefix would be either D1VE or D9TE
As Mr. Fixit (ctubutis) pointed out, 6015 is the casting basic number for the (bare) block only. Ford basic part number for a bare block is 6010.
As the Oklahoma Kid (Gary) pointed out: Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers. Casting numbers are foundry marks only.
Well again I say thanks and Im never affraid to be wrong thats how I learn. And yes very well detailed explanation. The fuel pump bolts to the timming cover and Im not sure how many bolts in valve covers the motor is at a friends garage but will check if that helps.
