Its overfilled, there should be no fluid coming out with the trans at temperature and running.
thank you. I sucked out 7 1/2 ounces. Kept checking it. I drove the daylights out of it until I got it up to 206°. It cooled down very quickly. Said it was 195 or so when I checked it. Checked it like 10 times burnt myself five times. Should be good. So it’s just over 8 quarts I believe with the pan drop.
just got back from towing a 14 foot aluminum boat with aluminum trailer and gear and 20 hp motor, rural with a little suburban area in the mix. Not sure how much it weighs. I think around 1200 pounds. 190°.
Several years ago I added a trans cooler to the front of mine, didn't have it from factory, afterwards I knew I would need to add fluid. After letting everything get to operating temp, made sure I was on level ground, with engine running, I removed the cap and stubby dipstick, and topped off fluid "like normal".
i used the quart bottle with a pointed nipple cap and attached a short piece of hose, a squirted in a little at a time. Kept rechecking and adding until at the hot level. Wasn't hard or tricky, just laying on your back.
I've had problems with the 6R80 since 100k. I'll get the temp up, shift into each gear as the procedure says, then check fluid on level ground. Shows low about a quart. I add fluid to the top of "A" per the procedure. Shifts fine for a week or so.
Now it's back to shifting way early and hard so I have no power - also shifts really hard when cold. I check the fluid using the 6r80 procedure and now its overflowing... Im thinking this is a solenoid issue rather than "you did it wrong". Anyone seen this before?
Pretty sad how much im going to lose on this truck if I decide to trade for a another one.. not sure I'll be getting a Ford after all of the issues with this one - particularly with the 6R80.
