100 dollar toothpick-holder delete.

I am about to do the F650 (manual) lower dash mod to my '01. The upper area will receive switches for auxiliary lights, backup alarm silencer, and soon-to-be-added heated seats and mirrors. The lower area will get vacuum, transmission fliud and engine oil temp gauges.

But I know I will miss my little dash cubbie. That is where my glasses and wallet go when I drive. I am already planning on replacing the bikini hook with the front of an ashtray from a '99, and making a storage cubbie behind it.

I am also looking at converting the pull-out cupholder/ashtray to a drawer. It is easier to reach from the driver's side than the bikini hook location. I have cup holders in my console. I don't smoke. It would be a no-brainer to use that space for a cubbie as well. Right now all it is used for is to hold toothpicks.

Has anyone else done this? Any hints?

I wish to maintain the stock appearance of the dash, but like the idea of a drawer for the glasses and wallet--they wouldn't slide out onto the floor when I whup down on the accelerator, and would be out of sight.

Thanks in advance for any input!
