I am driving an e-350 boxbody van. Occasionally the overdrive light on the gear selector will flash. the tranny does not appear to be slipping. It is only two years old. What causes this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My 93 F-150 was doing the same thing...flickering on and off, till one day it quit altogether. The button itself would still work, taking it in and out of OD, the bulb/light part was just bad. I used a jeweler's screwdriver to opp of that plastic ring that holds the button in, pulled the old bulb/button out with my fingers. Went to my local Ford place and bought a new one for about $13.00. Takes all of a minute to replace...it that in fact is your problem...but it sure does sound like it. Good luck!

my '96 started flashing when I drove the truck for about 10 miles or so. I could shut the truck off and it would quit but then start up again. also when it was flashing the truck would start shifting very hard. I took it to ford and the pulled the fault codes and found out that I had a clutch slipping and it was going in to a default setting upping the prssure which made it shift harder. i never noticed that it slipped but the clutches were burnt so i guess it was, even though it didn't feel like it. I was lucky and it was covered under the extended waranty so they basicaly rebuilt the whole thing for me. but it would have cost rout $1500 with out the warranty.
