more beer needed

Last week I would have sworn that the day it took four people, two pipes, a 2x4 and 45 minutes to reattach the now straight passenger side floorboard to the truck was the single most difficult task I've attempted on my rebuild. As of today it's tied neck and neck with putting the doors back together.
I can now take the vent window assembly out of the truck, tear it down and reinstall it quicker than anyone should be able to. The new latches are in also. I finally got the window channels in and the glass is installed. The interior felt, at the top of the doors, was probably the hardest. how in the hell are you supposed to line up the little clips first time? I got good at pulling them apart also. Now to bring it inside so I can glue on the new weatherstripping. And this is just one door! Hopefully the driver's side goes faster.
I'm done venting. Hope everyone is having a better day. it's only 0950 here.
Mike

Wouldn't you pay about double for strips that had the clips (GOOD clips) factory installed in the correct locations?! I made some measurements on the outer felts that may help.

Sorry to hear about your nightmare. Pop a cold one, drink half of it and then jump on the drivers door... The passenger side was just practice, now the drivers will go together like a hand into a glove! Pop another frosty one and look at your fine work...

I feel the pain, am doing the same, but got some wrong parts so I had to take it back apart (plus changing to one piece glass, door poppers, and electric windows). I didn't have enough beer to make it better...
One door is almost done, waiting for the correct parts. Plus, mine is a '52 and they sent directions for a '56.

Now we know why their union originally formed. These folks worked a true days work when building these beasts.

Let's drink to the working man! Another to the working women! And one for the common foot soldier! Here's one to the salt of the earth! And one to the trucks that they build!

Success! I just finished gluing the weatherstripping to the passenger door. The vent window opens and closes. The regular window goes up, down and up again. I got the lock cylinder set screw reinstalled. the lock works, the outside handle works and the inside handle works. Tomorrow I will finally hang it back on the truck and pray it doesn't fall off.
I even got the new latch put in the drivers side. The vent window is in and the new channels for the big glass. I might have both doors on the cab by Sunday! Then I can bolt the seat in. My wife might die of a heart attack. It's been in the dining room for three years.
Cheers!

I'm with you on the door/window thing. Why on earth cant the entire steel inner door panel be held on with screws all around the perimeter and it just comes off to work in there. Is it some kind of bizzare torture so regular folks can't deal with it and have to bring it to a shop? Why oh why do they make it so cramped? And our junkyard bench seat was in the living room all last winter because the truck we got it from in the wrecking yard had no glass in it so it was soaked through. We kinda missed our 'love seat', when it went into the truck. You might be a redneck if your living room furniture has seat belts.......

ROFL.... +1^ yeah you might be a redneck, GB.... lol what a great thread! Beer and work combined...not the best idea but sure fun!

MCarlson...your wife will be tickled pink to have her dining room back, she will be able to make it presentable and to her liking again. She may even reward you with a treat -or worst case, another cold one.
