Has anyone eliminated the vent window and converted their door glass to one piece glass? I just got my door ready for sandblasting and would like to go with the one piece. I've seen conversion kits but they look very simple to convert.
Here is my thread, I cant remember but i dont think I went into the install process, but its not that big of a deal, ou will need to cut out a bit of the inside of the door where the Mirror bolted in and attach the new track ( we welded it in place, then some fine tuning and your in there, lol
I put them in my '57 and I think they look fantastic, but they weren't the Classic Glass kit.
The instructions I got we're a little hard to follow, but in hindsight it wasn't a tough install. I stayed with the manual operation and replaced all the rollers too.
I'm a little disappointed because when rolling the windows up they have a tendency to rock and bind, forcing me to pull the window up to assist the operation. I've talked to a guy who does fabrication and he says he can fix it, and I'll probably go with electric windows when I hand them over to him.
Short answer - totally worth it and I'd do it again.
I am looking for information concerning the parts for a rear door on a 1989 F350 Crew. The drivers side rear door does not have a knee brace to attach the door panel pull handle to like the front door, is this normal? I am also looking for a complete set of the factory shop service manuals. I am in the process of restoring the truck and any information, short cuts, "do not do's", etc. I can get will be greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't feel too bad, mostly stuff to be expected. I bought my 2005 6.0 in 2012 after I wrecked my 7.3. I bought it from a guy in Texas for $14,500 with about 159K. There were issues right away, but after redoing my 7.3, I expected most of the stuff and planned to spend additional cash. Put about $10K right away, doing normal Excursion mods, suspension, exhaust, brakes, power stirring pump and so on. It also had a bit of a shake I could never get right, I found out it was out of round wheels. I replaced with 18" Super Duty rims and 35s. That was the best money I've spent. I think the 35' an 18" wheels is perfect for my truck, looks completely different than it did. I also found a bit of ****ty body work. I did know the paint wasn't perfect and still plan to have it painted.
About a year ago, I started having a hard start, turned into a very hard to no start. I had another car to drive so I put of fixing. Eventually got into a shop, they went through everything and couldn't nail it down without digging into it. So, I let it sit some more, now, my son will be getting the Explorer I drive next month when he gets his DL. I finally got it into a good diesel shop and found the motor was shot at 240K, no compression. I have a quote for $10K for a performance long block. Then I decided injectors should be done, then the fuel system and intake manifold.
Now I'm at $15-16K! I knew going in I'd be spending money and got several years before the motor died. While I don't want to spend that kind of money, a new truck is going to be $60K plus, even used with 150K, still looking a a bunch of money. Besides, why are we all here? We love our Excursions! I couldn't' stand getting rid of it now, so rebuild it is! Still plan to have it painted someday. I'll be honest, I shed some man tears when I totaled my 7.3, I had hundreds of hours and many dollars invested, kinda becomes part of ya.
I'm excited to get the upgrades and see what it can do. I'll tell ya, I get compliments on this truck everywhere I go! IMHO, it's worth putting the money in it. If I can ever afford it, I'd like to have an F350 Excursion conversion.
