I really appreciate the advice, but I work overnight at the University of Iowa hospital and their parking ramps are right at.....7ft iirc. My antenna scraps on the beams lol. So as much as I would love to mount it up good, high and secure, I'm forced to push it down over the windshield a little. (Double row btw) your single row really looks sleak and tight and I'm a little jealous lol. I think ive resigned to just having to find a machine shop around here. I am a big fan of like a disconnect though....one that's solid but secure, and an electrical one to match, good idea. I get a lot of downtime here and I have some drafting experience, I might look into designing something based off all the fantastic input yall have offered.
If you push it over the w/s you will get glare on the glass and hood.
I have seen some custom deflectors made and mounted under the light to prevent that, but that means more metal, and I think that takes the look away.
Next time I see that vehicle I will try and get a photo and post it up.
Lmao you'll enjoy this... so if I had a single row 50 spot, I actually debated a hood mounted design, either right behind the bug deflector or just in front of the wipers. Obviously as you pointed out....just....no. I do like those other mounts though, that would be a good height. If aimed right they really give off that much glare?

ALL the bars I have seen have a LOT of spill...so yes..it's going to glare...A LOT. One of the main reasons I bumper mounted..

wow that's actually an incredible picture to prove your point. I'll have to mock fit it just for fun today/night to see how bad it really is. That's kind of disappointing...I assume the amount of glare really doesn't change too much between a 'low' mount vs the ones that mount just above the roofline...?

No, it's still going to suck, the thing that annoyed me as much as the hood glare in the rigs that I have been in that had roof mounts, was the glare off the windshield, it highlights every pit and crank and smear on the thing...

It looks like a LOT of light on the hood, or just camera making it look like that?
With that said, I'm going to play a few rounds of League of Legends (yup) while it warms up and Ill go about throwing up some pics of the 50 in various spots so stay tuned!
See I actually assumed that it is worse than the picture even since you always hear how the camera never does a bright light justice
You're right about that! But I figured we have access to the guy in the driver's seat here, let's find out his opinion of how it looks from there
I guess it's possible the light is being spilled out left and right and forward only (as we would hope to get from a light bar)? It doesn't look that way from the pic, for sure.
I've been looking at LED light bars. Key word is "looking" LOL!
you're going to get light nearly 180* with the leds, most any led bars. The reflectors are simply too shallow to be able to focus the light into a beam, which is why they're going to be labeled as "off road" only. Mine is no issue on the bumper obviously, but anywhere hood or above is going to be an issue, plus the truck itself will block a lot of useable light, I will take a side shot tonight and see if I can capture the beam pattern, maybe I'll fire up the smoke machine to show it better.
Ill still have to play in the dark to see anything really. So far though....its gunna take a miracle for me to pull off mounting that thing and actually being ok with it. Im WAY too picky for my own good, and I didnt like it anywhere... :/
Question...i know these things are super bright...if a smaller one like 22" or so was mounted in the bumper in between the stock fogs, and mounted down, i wonder if it would blind oncoming drivers?
