hello i am new to the forum and new to diesel trucks. my truck is a 91 7.3 idi. it has a banks turbo kit and makes some crazy power. i love the truck so far but im having some issues with the E4oD trans. the overdrive cancel light is flashing and it seems to not be shifting at the correct speeds. and dosent know when to be in overdrive
under the hood,near the drivers side hood hinge is the trans port for connecting a code scanner.just an old school OBD1 is all that's needed,for example;
for the diesel,during KOEO,be sure to hold WOT during the scan to avoid false code 23 - fipl/tps.
with those codes,it will point you in the right direction.sometimes things are obvious issues where you don't even need to scan,such as for example,if the tach doesn't work or blown fuses under the hood,or in the cab.
every E40D owner should have an old OBD1 scanner anyway though.
Howdy. Not sure about what year models this affects but a buddy thats pretty slick on 7.3 stuff told me that on the e40d if you have flashing light and shifting problems first place to check (other than transmission fluid) is the dome light/third tail light. Apparently they share a ground wire or something and problems at the light can goof up the tranny.
I was running my 97 around and wasn't aware the alternator was crapped, when the two batteries started to give it up my symptoms were dim lights, hard shifting and flashing o/d light.
