I finally got the truck running great on idle and it accelerates almost perfect with the occasional pinging episode but I cant seem to eliminate the shudder on decel. It seems like its may be the driveling binding or the engine dieing out but i cant tell becuse everytime i try to isolate the cause it dosent do it.
Seems to be eliminated by coasting in neutral.
Truck is a 78 150 4x4 auto. No crazy lift just maybe an inch or 2 in the rear due to over arched leafs.
Let me know what you think.
How many think its joint, trans or engine related.
You're not touching the brakes when this happens, right?
I'd check the ujoint at the rear axle. They usually get worn first because they're lower to the ground and get more salt and crud in em. It's 4 bolts to pop it off the pinion yoke and check
Also, if a two piece rear driveshaft, make sure the splines and yoke where the two meet is rust/dirt free and well greased.
If it gets rusty/sticky, it often binds and you'll hear it sometimes on decel, other times it'll pop when you take off from a stop.
