Put the key in the run position, push a small stiff wire up into the only small hole in the lower column shroud to depress the button for the lock cylinder, and pull it out. Remove the key-in switch (small black plastic with a tiny brass strip) and put it back in. When you turn the key to ANY other position, the button will lock it back into the column and you're done.
You can find diagrams showing this procedure here.
Alternatively, you could track down the chime module and unplug it. It's somewhere behind the A/C control panel under the dash.
I just turned the key to acc and looked for the chime. Found it and pulled it out. Did it about 5 years ago on my 95 150. I never lock my doors anyways and the key never leaves the ignition.
On my old 1995 Ranger, I found the module behind the dash. I couldn't just unplug it because that module also controlled some other stuff. So I took it apart, and stabbed the chime with a screwdriver until it shut up...
hey,Sawbones went your route. Tracked down the module containing the chime. Found it to the right of the steering column and about 18" above the gas petal. Disconnected it and took the circuit board out. Drilled the center of the chime cover open and "surgically" removed the magnet and diaphram with a pair of tweezers. 15 min. job and all is quiet now.
How do I get "into" my ignition to unclip that key chime clip?
On my '93 it's surrounded by the black encasing of the steering wheel. I admit that electrical system work is my achilles heel, so any assistance in turning that chime off would be appreciated. Thanks.
