I am the proud owner of a 2000 F250 SD 7.3, auto transmission, with 220,000 miles. I have noticed that sometimes when I start the truck it rocks forward a tiny bit as the engine starts, like the transmission is engaged. I don't think the truck really roles forward it just kinda jerks a bit. This has developed over the last 1000 miles or so and doesn't happen every start. Transmission fluid is full, good color and does not smell burnt. Can anyone tell me what causes this and if it is a bad sign. Should I be staying close to home and saving for a rebuild? Thanks!
Not a hole lot of help here but if it is the original tranny you did pretty good. If you have power mods and the transmission has not been built then ya I would say your getting close. These are only words though. I have seen these trannys go as far as 400K miles and as early as 60K miles. They are not the best when more power is added. I notice mine started slipping when towing in the mountains and did mine at 167K miles with upgraded parts inside to handle more HP. I probably could have gotten to 200K but didn't fill like hitting stranded.
Good luck and others will chime in with better info
My transmission has done the same thing... I just changed my fluid and filter a few months ago.... it doesnt do this every time... but now and then it will roll a little when I start it...
Im not sure what I can do to fix it?
I havent been using my remote start since it started to move on its own when starting...
You can rebuild the trans with more clutch clearances, or you can switch to synthetic ATF, or you can ignore it. If your park system works then the truck won't go anywhere. You could also set the parking brake.
I put in mercon v semi synthetic.... a year or so ago my shifter was loose and I put my truck in park and I as I got out it started to roll... but I got that adjusted.
ill just live with it for now. It doesnt do it often... and for 139k my tranny seems to be just fine...and maybe apply the park brake for alittle ease of mind when using my remote start....
Thanks for the input. It sounds like it is pretty common & isnt necessarily a death sentence for the transmission. My truck has never rolled away while in park &isnt doesnt even hint at doing so when it start it. It only bumps a little sometimes.....maybe when it warms up ill change the fluid.

Be glad its not worse. Some of the late model GM's are REALLY bad. The first couple times I've had it happen to me were starting late model Tahoe's leaning into the door, it scares the crap out of you.

Like Mark K said, good time to change the fluid, especially if your not sure when it's been done. These "springs" up here are a bit colder than some.
I always set the parking brake, just habit.
