460 low power?

Hello gentlemen,

I recently purchased a 1997 f350 460
Standard cab
3.55 gears
170k miles

Sitting on 35" Mickey Thompson mud terrain

Before anyone makes quick judges before the questions I baby the truck. Maintenance up to date wash and wax. I've owned about 3 months prob put 750 miles on it.

I noticed it won't power brake and turn over the tires? Is this normal or should I be aware that the motor is losing power?

Thanks for all suggestions up front. Again the truck is babied, just wanted to try new truck out.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about spinning the tires. I would judge the power by the way it accelerates and powers down the road. I have had very few vehicles with automatic transmissions that would spin the tires on a hard surface road. Just my opinion.

Thanks

Not worried about it just concerned me that it wouldn't with a 460.

It will get down the road decent. I can tell a difference between my old 351w and this.

But it won't beat no little rice burner honda like everyone said it should.

The text in bold is the leading contributor to your issue IMHO. 35" tires and 3.55 gears should not be used in the same context. Those tires have lowered the effective gearing (torque multiplication) by ~10%. Add in the extra width compared to the factory tires....

The tires aren't helping, but check fuel pressure, base timing, and the exhaust for leaks upstream of the O2 sensor or a partially blocked cat.
Low fuel pressure will definitely affect power, the system should build and maintain 40-45psi with vacuum removed from the regulator and 32-35 with vacuum attached(engine running), and pressure should always tend towards the higher levels under load or when the throttle is snapped open.. it should never drop below this level.
Base timing is 10deg BTDC with the spout plug removed and most engines will tolerate 2-4 deg additional unloaded, adding this extra timing will produce noticable gains but it can lead to detonation under heavy load so if you tow regularly test it with the load.

The blue is a large part of the reason it will not spin the tires. Also, the rear brakes are probably adjusted CORRECTLY is another reason.

As for your statement in red. Babying the truck and Burning the tries off do not go in the same sentence
