I have a 94 f-350 7.5l E4OD, 34,000 miles on it.
I am pulling the transmission today to replace/update the leaky front shaft seal. I have another issue in which every once in a while it neutral drops while in OD. It only does it in OD, and it doesn't matter if it is under load or not. It comes out of gear for about 1/2 a second, just long enough for me to notice it when it SLAMS back into gear. Fluid level is and always is good, a fluid flush did not fix. Always shifts great otherwise. Any idea what this could be while I have the fluid out of it?
Sounds like a bad TR sensor.
If it was 4X4 it could also be it has the wrong filter in it. If you put a 2 wheel drive filter in a 4X4 transmission with a deep pan it will do this also.
But most of the time it is the TR sensor and make sure you aline the TR sensor in neutral with the marks on it.
Note that the auto parts stores will call the TR sensor a neutral safety switch.
Thanks guys. I know it has the right 4x4 filter in it, I will put a new switch in and see if it helps.
It was a fire truck, that's why it has such low miles. Crew cab dually 4x4 water tanker that I have converted to a pickup. Its been a lot of work, but its what I've always wanted and should last me forever.
