Anyone know how to improve the range of the visor mounted rolling code door & gate opener in a 2013 Expedition? I have to pull up until the truck almost touches the gate to get within range, but the transmitter that came with the gate works from 100 yards away. Is there some way to increase the power of the factory unit? it is convenient but pitifully weak. The owners' manual even suggests lowering the visor to eliminate interference from the truck roof!
Berry1234, is your unit a Lear "Car2U" type? Not sure what year models use what unit. Tech help at Lear told me to put a better antenna on my gate. similar range issues with other button on garage door. Seems like the only variable is the output power of the remotes. I remember having larger output transistors installed to increase the power of CB radios. Maybe something similar can be done?
I also have a 2013 Expedition and it has the Home Link remote system in the visor. I have found out that my garage door range on the visor is under 100 feet, give or take 10 ft. Keep us informed as I would also like to extend the range on the remote in the visor.
Lear 2 U had to have a company install another receiver in my control box because the in visor remote would not program to the original control moduel. After all that my 2011 Expedition EL XLT has the same limited range that you are experiencing. The wife doesn't even use the visor controller because she has to be almost in the swing path of the gate for the visor remote to work. Haven't gone back to Lear 2 u but based on what I am hearing it may not be worth any more of my time either.
So I gather from this and other threads that some Expeditions are equipped with Lear Car2U visors (like mine) and some have Homelink. Are both of them compatible with dip-switch servos like my Viking gate opener? If the Homelink is more powerful for $400, it might fix the problem. My only question is does it come with babyseat airbag warnings en Francais? Just in case I have a *&%$@ french baby? Because you can't be too careful even if it means hideously defacing the interior of a $50,000 truck?!! If it comes without those stickers it would be worth $400 even if it didn't open the gate at all!

Another option is to get a homelink visor from some other/older car/truck on ebay, pull the parts out and wire it yourself. I have seen others do this. They can be had for cheap.
OK, Mrs. just got a 2015 Subaru Outback. It has Homelink unit in the visor. I programmed it to the gate and it works from est. 150 ft. away. So I should find out what the Homelink transmitter for the Expedition looks like and see if I can install it in my visor in place of the inferior, underpowered Lear unit. Rather disappointing, every time I drive in or out.
