Dc Alternator ordered

I Just ordered the 250 amp during the $50 off sale. I've had a 140 amp db,
250 amp tenney and now im using a local 150 amp alternator. I think the glow plugs draw more power than the alternator can supply, it burns out Hopefully this will be my last Alternator for my Excursion

The DC Power alternator is a better one than what you have had before, but it is not a guarantee that you will have no failures. As others have said, if it does fail, the fact that you have to deal with them over the internet or by phone makes it hard to resolve quickly. I think it is worth it, but I also kept my OEM one as a spare.

It is sad what happened to people with failed Tenney alternators! What issues did you have with the db unit?

Did your Tenney die? Excessive Amperage will be looking at mine as soon as I get it shipped to them.

The alternator seems to be a very common issue with these Trucks but whats weird to me is Ive had my 2006 6.0 just over 2.5 years & never had an issue, plus my Dad bought his 2004 6.0 about 7 years ago & is still running the same unit also.....Weird
Whenever mine does die i'll be buying a DC due to popularity on here

The new 250 HD DC alternator for $449 looks cool and has good specs.

The Visteon 160 or Prestolite 230 seem like better options though.

Low voltage, then battery light blinking. Now that im in the school of hard knocks, i wish i had ordered at least a 200 amp for db, then it may have held up...

Did you have a tenny that died? My local shop took it apart and found the Chinese bearing had failed...

Yup. I put it on in January of 2013 and it died on Sunday night. I let the truck warm up behind the shop and when I came back out it smelled like burnt electronics and my Edge Insight was nagging about the low voltage. I pulled the work truck back out of the shop and pulled the pickup in. The case was 300+ degrees. There was a little piece of solder splatter behind the alternator. It rattles and little pieces of solder come out now. The bearings still seem fine though.

I called Excessive Amperage and talked with Nate. I am going to send it in to them and have him inspect and repair it.

What auto electric shop are you using in the Twin Cities?

I'm Hijacking this pig! What is the difference between the 6.0 alts, and the 6.4 alts? I see that the 6.4 had a 200amp option, and was wondering if they are interchangeable?

I've heard the power lug interferes...

Crap. I think my upper/primary alt is going, and was going to get a better one. I refuse to drop the money DC wants, so Napa it is. Was hoping the 200amp 6.4 would work.

I have those on my list as well (Die Hard platinums), but I want to upgrade the alternator first so that I'm covered all around. I like the looks of the DC 185, but have heard the issues some folks are having if/when the unit does go out (hopefully it never will though).

I have had the Die Hard Platinum's for 3 years and love them. I also just put in a DC 270XP and the truck rums awesome.
