My launch scanner reported a bad oil pressure switch, but I've replaced that, and when I did the oil pressure light went away, but my gauge still didn't work. Could it be a faulty switch? Or is it common for gauges to stop working on these fords seeing how there's a resistor to trick the gauge from the factory anyway? If I smack my dash the gauge will raise and lower. But I think that's normal.
You didn't give the year but believe it's 02.
Do the dash diagnostics and see what code might come up and look at the value of the oil pressure readout with the motor running.
Stepping to OIL will show a number between 0 and 250.
If oil switch is operating, the number will be between 0 and 176.
If open it will show 177 to 250.
Also the diagnostic code will show as 5284 or a C code of C1284 if there is a fault.
Good luck..

Yeah it's C1284. What now? When I do the diagnostics my oil pressure gauge moves.... So... Maybe buy another oil pressure sensor?
If the pressure switch closes when the motor is started and remains closed the problem is in the dash circuit or the harrness.
If you can't find a harness or board fault the panel has to be replaced..
Replacing the panel requires reprogramming the PATS by a dealer and with two keys.
Reason is the dash, Pats and PCM 'marry' by code.
If anything is changed without reprogramming, the code is broken between them and there would be a no start condition as the way Theft protection is done and is nearly fool proof..
Good luck.
