My truck buddy's name is Rocky, he is a black lab mutt that we got from a rescue just over 10 years ago. He used to love coming out to the shop to "help" me work. He would always seem to be in the way and always wanted to know how things worked as he would always nuzzle his way in at the most crucial times! he has bone cancer and has been suffering for several months now, we decided that we are going to have a personal visit from the vet as we have him put down....its the right thing to do for him, but it sure is tough on the old heart strings....I'm going to miss him
pics of my buddy are below.
thanks for listening.

Wade, That is a hard choice, one that sometimes we must make. I did enjoy meeting Rocky last summer. Brief as the meeting was, I could tell he was a great dog, a cherished family member.
Our families deepest, deepest sympathies for you. We have been in the same situation. One beagle we had, was the Devil Dog. He hated me and likewise, but when he had to be put down due to cancer 4 yrs ago, I cried like a baby. We always said this is the last one, and we've been saying that for 30 yrs. They all have there own character's, but the next one will have theirs. we haven't been without one for more than 4 months. Stay strong my friend.
Wade, Im so sorry to hear that. Your friend will always be rememebered and always have that special place in your heart. How very tough to make that right decision.
I lost two a few years ago within a week of each other. First one of old age we new her time was near but the younger one by car on highway was very hard to deal with.
Hang in there,
Josh
We had an English Setter hunting dog named Jack until a couple of years ago. We've had pointers and setters since the early 80s and never had one live to be 11 until Jack. When he turned 12, we got a puppy to "replace" him. But Jack didn't know he was too old. He was 15, blind and deaf but happy. It broke my heart to have him put down, but also to see him running into things in the house and back yard he'd lived in all his life.
They're part of the family, and hard to let go. I am so sorry for your loss.
I too am so very sorry for your loss. My wife gets mad when I tell others I prefer pets over people. You know you are doing the right thing when it feels so damn bad. When we put our first pet down we had her cremated and brought her home because we didn't know what else to do. Three more followed over several years. If you had told me years ago you knew a guy who had the ashes of four pets in his house I would have told you that guy was a nut. Maybe, but it comforts me to feel like I am still taking care of them the only way I can. One of the inscriptions on the urn sais TILL WE MEET AGAIN AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE.
Sorry Wade, I had to put Bandit down last year and sometime late at night when I'm watching TV I'll look over where he always lays before I realize what I'm doing. Just remember him forever.
It's hard it hurts but you know it's best keep him in your heart and memory and you will be ok. The smartest thing we did after Max the mutt (17 years by my side everyday) was to get Sophie & Gracie just shouldn't have waited 4 years.
It's hard to let them go - I found a packet of pictures from a Puppie I got in 97, lost her in 2010 - I just sat here going thru them over and over
I'm glad that you're not letting him suffer any longer
Sorry for you loss. These fur people make a huge impact on our lives.
We just lost one of our Cockers Maddie. Ours was especially tragic. She was about 14, blind and a little confused sometimes but she was the sweetest dog ever. One evening our son was driving home (he is 15 and had his license for about a month) and he ran over her in the driveway. That was something we had always been worried about.
Sam was inconsolable. It took several days for him to recover. We still don't talk about it.
I did ok until I finished digging her grave......
Maddie is the brown one on the right. My wife is actually under the pile.
Hey Wade,
Hang in there! Sorry to hear about Rocky - that really sucks.
I've had to do that too - I'm the biggest softee & it's not easy but you
know it's the right thing to do. Doesn't make it any easier.
