Hey just was sitting here thinking and got to remembering a conversation i had with a shop near me that i started going to.. They are trying to basically be the next bean diesel.. Not impressed so far though. Talking to them though i was telling them i have a 6 position chip in the truck. The guy proceeds to go man that's the best thing out there for a 7.3L. Well just was wondering what everyone else's thoughts on this view is? I have an edge insight for monitoring everything and noticed my fuel mileage goes up on the 3rd setting but have no clue what tunes there are on it?
The chip is not the thing, the tunes programmed into it are. DP is pretty much Apple/iPad/iPhone... with it being proprietary (Dynoproven can tune on these as well). TS is like the PC/Android... everybody tunes on these. F6 (DP and Dynoproven) and Hydra (almost everybody else that's significant) are chips that do the same thing as their counterparts... but tunes are emailed/downloaded from the web and you can update your own chip via USB port and a laptop.
Well Tugly since i caught your attention and you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on some stuff. Been seeing alot of your posts. Whats your opinion of single shot vs. split shot injectors.. I can't seem to see any solid evidence the single shots add fuel mileage but, i have read many rumors about them adding fuel mileage?

You won't really find that much proof since tracking fuel mileage is subjective enough as it is.
The flip side of that coin is the size/configuration of the injectors themselves. Not all injectors improve your fuel economy. Some will give you a ton more power, but at a sacrifice of MPG's.
There used to be a guy who hung out on the forums that was achieving incredible fuel economy on the 7.3L. He also had meticulous records and tracked every drop of fuel. The truck was lowered, re-geared to 3.08's, had a custom made fair back bed cover on it, and a front air dam added. So it was modified strictly for max fuel economy. He did see a slight increase in MPG's when he swapped over to stock AC's. So based alone on that situation, it's possible to get better fuel economy out of single shots.

Your experience may differ.
I've seen pictures of that truck and posts over on one of the fuel mileage forums. You can get as much as 30mpg highway out of it like that, but it's no longer a real truck. Lowered and aerodynamic mods make the truck MUCH less useable. He's got a front air dam that almost touches the road.

Pocket knows a lot about all of this, he actually tunes... where I'm more of a nurse for the doctors of diesel dialing.
That being said - when comparing a stock Ford 7.3L injector with the IH AC 160 (stock for the T444E HP), the math says you could see a slight increase in economy with proper tuning and driving habits. The reality is once you get that permagrin, it's difficult to drive a whole tank with the goal of optimum MPGs. I've tried (and failed) many times, but my average (with 100% nozzles) is down 1 MPG from before the upgrade. I used to get 17 to 19.5, now I get 16 to 18.5. That's still a good number when you consider the truck does this:
Well I'll be honest i love my diesel and don't wanna get rid of the diesel all together. Now with that being said i'm getting not the greatest of fuel mileage but i'm in the 11 to 13 range in the winter and in the summer i'll be 12 to 15.... I'm at the point of do i get rid of it for something newer or just get rid of it all together. Now everyone says are you using it? The answer is no i'm not towing regularly enough to justify having all the extra power. My problem is when want the extra power it's nice to have it.. I plowed a couple driveways this winter that it was kinda nice to be able to just let the truck do the work with ease where i'm sure if it was a gas truck i would of been horsing on it alot harder to move the same amount of snow

Go look at what other trucks are putting out for MPG. Its hardly worth the upgrade to go to 20mpg for a new F150 and a several hundred dollar per month payment. Even new diesels dont get much better. Heck some get worse. I get 18mpg freeway, and I looked into getting a car, but unless I get a car over 50mpg, it wont break even after the payment.

Yup that's the exact problem i have but i don't really wanna downgrade to a 1/2 ton eithe ri like my 3/4 tons so i gotta suck it up and stay with a diesel or go with a gas guzzler
i have both, gas and diesel.
the diesels are parked with the plows on them.
i am daily driving the 04 F-350 5.4 engine. they all get around the same mileage, and since gas is close to a dollar a gallon cheaper than gas, i leave the diesels for plowing duty for now.
if i need to haul a heavy load i will unhook one, otherwise it is the gas truck for regular driving.

I bet that gasser warms up the cab quicker in the winter too, haha
actually no. it takes about 5 miles for heat in the gas, and 2 miles in the diesel. since the shop is 3 miles from the house, the gas truck is still blowing cool air when i park it.
