I understand Jasper changed its business model and no longer offering engines to the DIYer. Instead, engines are swapped by an authorized "installer"... a real garage if you will.

Yes and there is some simple ways around that. In having a shop
order it for ya. And ya get it at Jobber if the shop is a freind.

I feel it's worth the extra red tape to get what I feel is the best out
there. Even without a warranty because a certified shop didn't put
there name n the install and break in. Although the shop that will order
mine will do the warranty even though I do the install.

PHOENIX ENGINES

Just a little update. I went ahead and purchase a turn key crate motor from Phoenixengines.com. I must say I was impressed that the owner Randy spent well over an hour with me helping me deciding on what I wanted and didn't want. He called me back at 7pm (pst) and was on the phone answering all my questions and concerns until almost 830 pm. I was very impressed as he is an "old schooler" who used to race.

Enough of the plug, here's what I got. I went with the 302 (for personal reason) and decided on a 330 hp fully dressed motor. Randy threw in a few goodies like chrome oil pan some dip stik tubes etc. I went with his dyno testing package where they break in the motor, jet it, set timing change the oils, re-torque the heads etc. The only bad thing is I have to wait 8-10 weeks before it deliver to my door! One thing I like is, only one guy is assigned to build the custom motor.
Now the problem I have is I have to wait 8-10 weeks before I get it. Oh well gives me time to do some shopping for radiator, headers and other bits and pieces. $4689.50 delivered to the door!

Jim

Sounds good, keep us updated in this thread as you have the engine and own it for awhile.

I was going to suggest a 90's like 97+ 5.0 switched over to carb.
You can get them cheap and a rebuild isn't to costly. It's what I'm running.
I like the 302 also.

Hey see if you can get a parts list for the engine and post it up I'd be curious to see whats in the motor.

I helped a buddy swap an engine in Phoenix about 20 years ago. He got a long block from a place that advertised $499 rebuilt chevy 350 engines. I got to take a tour of the shop. They would scour all the wrecking yards and pull 350s, especially U pull it. Then they tore them down, piles of them, and separated all the pieces. heads to one section, rods to another, blocks and cranks to another. even push rods. rods were weighed and stored in bins according to weight and renumbered. bins of valves, springs, rocker arms.... then they sat guys down and measured spring comp, others rebuilt heads, rebushed rods, turned cranks, bored blocks, new stock cams and lifters installed. Of course they threw away lots of bad parts but they churned out lots of engines with a 1 year warranty.

A hose burst on I-10 and his wife drove it until it died. We pulled the motor and said it was a smoker with no compression and they did not blink, just gave him another one. He drove that car for a decade passing AZ emissions.

I just spent $400 for valve grind, seats, guides, and some machine work on my 460 heads. I miss Phoenix.

A family member of mine picked up an ATK long block for a reasonable price. We got the motor put in and it lasted past the warranty. .. not much longer. When it went to the machine shop the guy called us down to show us what he'd found. 2 cylinders 30 over the rest were 40 overs. The mains were a mixture of 10 and 30 over. And you guessed it... rods bearings were the same story. Not saying they still do this but be weary who you buy from. I like CME (carolina machine engines) but I've seen guys at shows using phoenix and they like them.
