Can you post the pics again? For some reason it shows on mine that your photobucket is out dated or something cause I can't see any pics on this thread but used to be able to the first time I read this thread awhile ago.
photobucket locked everyone out that would not pay the ransom they are demanding for your photos...
Fortunately, you can post photos directly to FTE without using a third party photo host...it just sucks for all the old threads and posts that have photobucket links!
Ok. ill see what I can do. Give me a day or 2. yes photobucket is digging themselves a hole. I already have a different site, but will post them through here.
I see some of these EX's and I don't understand how they get so rusty - the trucks are even worse. I park outside year round and do a bunch of forest roads in snow and wet. I don't have a spec of rust anywhere.
I understand the salt issue, but is there that much difference between NE and NW climate? Or is it purely the salt they use in the NE?
it probably is the citys setup and mixture my area of canada was really bad roughly 5 years ago then they went to a mostly sand mixture an it reduced rusting greatly. sadly some areas in the states and canada are still heavey salt users
Gents, its the salt. I dont want to go off on my normal salt rant but....I've seen them salting on sunny days, they put down enough salt such that it acts like gravel.... when the roads dry up, theres enough salt remaining that everything turns white and there are giant clouds of salt dust kicked up by the traffic. There are piles at intersections, sometimes either the operator or the equipment fails and the devils seasoning fills an entire lane for a mile or so. They are spreading this crap in rush-hour traffic pelting innocent peoples cars. Its absolutely ridiculous the amount of salt they use. Its almost criminal.
No amount of washing spraying rustproofing can fight it. If you dont want it to rust, keep it in the garage.
I'll get pictures and videos of the blatant overuse of that vile substance.
Its one of the reasons I hate this state (MI) and cant wait to retire. If I retire on a Tuesday, there will be no trace of me here on Wednesday.
Around here they use road salt (in rock form), not mixed with anything after the snow falls. They also pretreat the roads with a salt brine (in liquid form). That way the areas of your vehicle where the rock salt would not fit can still get salted . And if all that salt isn't bad enough for your vehicle, it drips off on to the concrete in the garage and pits the concrete.
I've never heard of DOM16 untill the owner of our shop told me about it. POR15 is exclisively for rust if there is bare metal it needs to be prepped. DOM16 is for rust and bare metal with no prep needed. Each one has it's own use. It sounds like DOM is the way to go for any type of rust repair when good bare metal is next to it.
I like many, never heard of DOM 16, but I have used POR15 and it works great on clean metal. The issue with POR15 is a top coat will not stick to cured POR15 unless you top coat with POR15 primer first. What I did on a CJ7 restoration was to sand blast the frame, patch any rust holes spray the inside of the frame with Phosphoric acid with an undercoating wand, rinse and dried then I used sprayed POR15 inside the frame with the undercoating wand and sprayed the outside of the frame with a Harbour Freight spay gun. I let it tack dry about 45 minutes and then spayed with color. The POR15 bonded tightly to the color coat, now I have a color coat as hard as POR15. Still looking great 10 years later.
First time posting but I need some advice on my X I purchased this vehicle about 2 or 3 yrs ago, But now am having a huge rust problem and I want to fix it all. But am not sure where to get all the parts at. I need rocker panels inner and outer and than see pic below am not sure where to find this section if I can even purchase.
The rust when from bad to holy crap in a matter of months. Thanks for any advice you got.
Welcome, Trapper. Is it that bad on both sides? Plenty of rust-free Excursions down here in the bone yards to cut those pieces off of if you are willing to pay for the shipping. Cost of the pieces is usually very low. You will need a welder to cut out the old and weld in the new on your end as well.

I hear ya on the salt. Just snowed a little last night here, didn't even stick to the roads, but the roads are white this morning from the salt!
