Hood release cable

My hood release handle is broken and I'm trying to find a replacement.

I've found that supposedly E6UZ16916A is the part number for the cable, but it has been discontinued and I can not find a picture of the component to make sure it is correct.

It's not that big of a deal, but the fiance can't pull the release by herself and one day she might be driving this on her own and have to open the hood. Vice grips are an option but I'd prefer a new handle lol

Anyone have a solution (or a spare they wouldn't mind parting with )?

Perhaps a partial solution is posting what year and model vehicle you're seeking parts?

The p/n does indeed show as discontinued from Ford but my guess is someone in the aftermarket has them even now. I'd check with Advance Auto, Auto Zone or even RockAuto on-line. Given so many of those bodies are still in use as ambulances etc I can't think they;d be that difficult to locate.

Just an FYI----not everyone has their forum thread display options set to read everything another member crowds into their OP or replies. As a general rule always post what you're working on regardless where else that info may be contained.

I've seen too many requests for help go unanswered because others didn't want to dig too deeply discovering year, make, model, engine etc etc etc.

Hope you find that part----can't imagine how much a PITA being without a hood release would be!

Thanks for the heads up, did not realize that was an option

Thank you, just the handle is broken off, fortunately I work with my hands so its not a problem to me, but I'd hate for her to have to fight and get it open lol

Its always a bit funny---and maybe frustrating to the women---what we guys will endure and they won't! We sometimes forget what's "no biggie.........." to us can be an issue for them.

Oh well---they do realize we guys actually like putting up with some of this stuff!

Hey ya know it also occurs to me that part might be found NOS on eBay too. The part number might get results or it might find something from the aftermarket too.

Anyway best of luck with all this!

Yes, she's far from helpless but of course how many times do I have to open the pickle jars haha

I did do a search on there and nothing has populated recently, but I may just keep an eye out. If I can find an aftermarket solution I may not hesistate to go that route since Ford can't warranty a part they don't make anymore lol

Thank you sir

What exactly do you mean by "The handle is broke". While the best option would be finding a working replacement, is it something that could be repaired/welded etc?

I have a similiar problem - luckily not with my van

A Friend asked me to look after his '88 E150, pulled the handle and had it in 3 pieces in my hand.

I asked Rockauto, but they said it's unavaiable

Haven't fixed it yet, but my thoughts were to cut a thread on it and put a doorknob from a cupboard on it.

Is your's functional? If so mind taking a pic? lol The grab handle inside the vehicle, I'm assuming it looks like a T, but the black hood release handle (not the safety latch under the hood). When I bought my van it had no handle there. Just a black broken collar which should be the base of the release.

Cobra-Kai, I'm also trying to see if theres something I can come up with, I'm sure there is but if I can find a replacement I wanna go that route

I took care of the broken handle today.

I went to the Hardware store and got myself a brass **** - similar to the other ones already installed on the wooden panels in the interior.

The **** came with an M4-Screw.
So I drilled a hole in the tip of the cable, cutted a M4-thread in it and cutted of the head of the screw.

The result:
