A tire problem/question

Hello to all; I picked up my truck one week ago today. So far, so good- no shudders, squeaks, rattles, nothing- no complaints- except for one. Last weekend, I took off the wheels to install factory mudflaps and lube the hubs and wheel studs. While the tires were off I noticed all four had dry rot cracks starting to develop about an inch above the inside bead only. The tires are Pirelli scorpion atr(20"). A quick google search was quite an eye opener! So, yesterday I took it back to ford( the truck has 132 miles on it as of today) and the service writer made a face when I told him why I was there. After about an hour, he told me he took pictures of the cracks and was going to call Ford find out how they wanted to handle it. I haven't had to deal with a domestic auto maker service dept. for 10 years- Am I going to have to dog this guy every other day to get this resolved? Secondly, I really don't want another set of this POS tires if they're going to do this every 2 years. What would you guys recommend as a replacement tire for someone who never goes off road? Another quick question: Is there a way to set the seat heating and cooling to auto start when you start the truck?(I'm talking with the key, not the remote) I am already tired of manually pushing the touch screen EVERY time I get in!

PM "FordService" here on the board - see if Crystal can help you out.

Some people like the Scorpions, some don't. Michelin sells LTX tires in the same size, which is what I run.

I'm wondering what the DOT code says about the manufacture date on these tires. Is it possible that Ford would warehouse tires long enough to degrade?

This link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=11 will show you where to look on the tire to determine the week and year the tires were built.

Hi Elfiero,

As tvsjr suggested, I'll be happy to step in here and assist. Send me a PM with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership; I'll get this into the hands of your regional customer service manager.

Crystal

You lubed the wheel studs? Friction is what keeps those in place.
