Angry Recall General AW's notification.. NOT

I had these tire on my wife’s Expedition. I only discovered the recall after I researched it on the Internet, due to a tire separation. These “tires” cost me $1,700 from the body shop in repair. General stated that because I live in Arizona where it is “hot” the tires were not defective. They only has 21,000 miles on them and I Grabbers on my F-150 that went 39,000 has anyone else had this problem with Ford? What are the possible actions that I can take to get my deductible back from Ford? Would you even attempt this or is it a futile effort.

Doesn't surprise me in the least - the General Grabass has one of the worst track records of all the tires I've sold (it's a close 2nd behind Goodyears for warranty issues.)

I don't think you have too much leverage - to get your deductible back, you'd have to convince Ford that it was General's fault, and convince General to reimburse Ford. I see a circular argument here, you blaming General, General blaming you, Ford blaming you, etc.

How much was your deductible? I ask because you probably won't get anywhere without a lawyer, and by the time you get it all sorted out, you'll just hand the check over to him for his services.

You might just want to let it go and be happy that nobody got hurt.

Just my $.02

Thanks Matt

It is only $500 and I have resolved myself to that issue. Ford stated that the defective tries were never recalled through Ford, but through General. When pressed to ask why I was not informed I was told that my VIN stated I had different tires. When I told Ford I still had the spare; thus, I still had proof of tires they told me that my VIN was not involved in any recall.

My insurance company was going to go after General, but they stated that there was too much wear on the corner of the tires. I told them that if you put the PSI at what General stated you get that and that the seperation occured an inch onto tread.

You are correct, they have lined up to state it is my fault. Oh well, I have the staisfaction that when I got the new tires put on the gu at Discount Tire stated that they never recoment General tires.

Goodyear has a good tire in the Fortera HL. I have them on my F-150 and they made it ride so much better.

What is your opinion on the Nitto 404's ?

Nittos are really good for the price - I put a set of Extreme 550's on my mom's Porsche 911 and they're great. Only ran us maybe $450 (Discount Tire Direct + installed at my store). I've heard the only downside is that they apparently wear quickly, but she drives the car maybe 5,000 miles a year, so I'm not worried.

I'm personally not a big fan of tires that last for absurd amounts of time - I'd rather replace them instead of waiting for the tread to dry up and crack.

Just my $.02, FWIW.
