99 Navi running rough

Starts fine but when sitting at a light it drops from normal 750 rpm to 500 rpm and feels like there is a big cam in it. Don't notice any smoke or anything. SES light is on, just don't want to get hosed at mechanics....any suggestions? Thx

Yeah, I suggest you get the codes read to see why the SES light is on.

Most auto parts stores will loan you an OBD tester to pull the codes. Pretty easy way to start looking for the issue. I bet a misfire, P0301,2,3 etc depending on the cylinder.
Lots of posts here on replacing plugs or coil paks or the coil pak boots.

Codes

P0171.
P0174.
Which means bad or dirty MAF....should have known this. 2 of my sons have rangers and every time they hiccup we clean the MAF and problem goes away. I cleaned the one on the Navi and it did not work, I will double check tomorrow and if it doesn't clear......looks like I will be buying a new MAF.

Could mean something other than MAF. Check for a vacuum leak before replacing.

PCV elbow first. If no problem there, then propane or smoke test.

X2 on the pcv elbow. If your 99 hasn't changed this yet, it's Big Time necessary.

I would opt for the $6 elbow before the $100 plus MAF.

You are not done looking for the vac leak. Search "propane test" for vacuum leak to learn how. Or you can also have a shop do a smoke test. This test positively identifies (or dismisses) a vacuum leak.

Absent a vac leak you can check out other DTC causes. How old is the fuel filter in this Expedition?

Fuel filter is old, I crawled under to find it today before I went parts store. I have vertigo and went for a nice spin as soon as I was under there looking!! Gonna get my youngest son to take a look.at it for me...he is in his 3rd year if auto mechanics in high school...hope he can find it!!! Lol

Just look at or about the drivers side seat location, under the the truck along the frame rail. Use a quick connect tool, 3/8" I believe to remove both fittings to replace.
Pretty easy to remove and replace.
