What is normal boost pressure?

Hello, I have a 2002 F350 7.3L power stroke with an automatic trans.
I have an Edge Evolution tuner that shows boost pressure etc....
It seems like the boost pressure is a little high.
Driving at 60 MPH the boost pressure is reading 2PSI, wen I come to an up hill incline (Not steep) the pressure climbs to 5 sometimes 6 PSI.
Wen I take off from a stop the tach runs up to around 2200, 2300 RPM
and pressure climbs to 8 or 9 PSI.

The transmission seem like it shifts normally, I am running p305 Goodrich AT Tires, And I am pretty sure I have 3.73 gears.
Just wandering if this seems normal or if there is something I need to check.
The truck seems to run fine, I can here the turbo air release at shift points,
I even thought the tuner may be giving false pressure readings.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Seems a little low to me. Are your up pipes leaking?

This is what led you to question the boost? Those numbers are normal for a light foot. The truck is capable of about 17 PSI at WOT with no modifications... and 22 PSI with a ten-second modification of the red tube.

Let's talk about that noise... I'm assuming it's a stock intake. If you had a 6637 intake, the noise is normal. If it's a stock intake, you may have a leak in your intake box (bad seal at the filter) and it would need to be addressed before you cause harm to your turbo.

yes it is stock intake, it has a K&N filter wich will be changed to stock filter this week.
I hered K&N is very bad for diesel.

thank you for the help

The drop-in K&N has a bad reputation on these trucks in the stock air box application due to sealing improperly with the air box lid. Many run a K&N CAI system with a conical filter with no issues.

Member Y2KW57 posted an extremely insightful post on the downfalls of the stock box a couple weeks back. I'll search for the post, but in the meantime hopefully he sees this thread and posts it up.

That being said, your boost numbers do sound on the low side of normal. Coupled with the noise you describe, I'm inclined to agree with Tugly that you have a leak pre-turbo.

Edit: Found it. Starting with post #19.

My cents, Just based off of what you stated, 2psi at 60 mph seems accurate based off my Stock Setting truck. Slight incline seems the same also at 5 to 6psi. 2200 rpm from a take off and around 9psi boost is accurate to what i get on my truck also. NO LOAD, NO 5th wheel or car trailer. A PFFFFTT Is also similar to what i get in my truck while shifting, Sometimes.
I have 6637. Now flip the program to a 80E, or have "a load" is a different story.

Its easy to maintain low boost at cruising speeds. Run it to WOT (or near) and see what you peak at. Stock should be around 19 and tuned around 26.

Thank you for all the help, I am looking at different intakes and will defiantly check for leaks in the turbo system.

File this in the column labeled FWIW: Ford made two intakes for this truck - the stock one you have, and the AIS. The AIS is my favorite, breathes much better than stock, and is extremely quiet... plus it's the same filter media all Powerstrokes went to after the 7.3L.

Why would you think you have a leak?

Could my up pipes be leaking even though i dont have soot shown on them? Ive got 260,000 miles on the original up pipes and wile driving in the cab it seems a lil louder than normal like an exhaust leak bit no soot, thanks for the info

I don't see numbers that imply any leak, but all I've seen are light throttle numbers. Only a WOT run under load (like a zero to freeway speeds or a hard run up a hill) will give the true story. If you suspect an exhaust leak, you have to look everywhere - the manifolds, ups, collector, turbo, and downpipe. I had leaks on all of the above and it took a sizeable Buck$Zooka blast to replace everything.
