I have been noticing a humm from power steering when turning at low speeds. I am planning to replace the fluid. When I checked the level I noticed an unexpected smell - like a burnt electric motor. Is that just a normal smell for the well used fluid or is it pointing to something else?
And does anyone have a good picture or write up to replace the PST fluid on a 06 F250?
The reservoir is in a different place, but all you do is hook a new line to the return out of the hydrobooster, and pump the brakes/ tunr the steering wheel.
My fluid was pretty nasty at 50k, and again at 80k. Smelled kind of burnt, too. But I put in Mobile 1 ATF and it quieted it down.
I also installed a Magnefine R038M filter in the return line. It not only has a filter but also a built in magnet to catch minute metal particles. Less than twenty bucks at:
