power steering fluid in a 1973
What type of fluid did ford put in the 1973 power steering
automatic transmission fluid or power steering fluid.

I have a 1974 Ford F-100 and the filler cap says to put in transmission fluid only. However I use power steering fluid and it appears to work just as well.

Type F transmission fluid is good and all I've ever used. I have only replaced one power steering pump that was 30 years old and finally wore out.

Still have the owner's manual from my 73 F100 and it says type F...
