Airbox?

Since K&N seems to be deemed hazardous, I'd like to hear some recommendations of better airboxes please!

You might want start a new thread on this or look it up in search so there is no thread hijack going on.
I have the 6637 from Clay at Riffraff and am pleased with it.

There is a couple Tymar I think is one. Don't quote spelling
FORD AIS is one. Both are expensive in my book.

The napa # 6637 was my most viable option.
Just need 6637, some clamps, and a bent 4" piece of Exhaust. I think a 99^ gets a 4" 90* and my early 99 got a 4" 45*.
Or buy the kit from Riffraff.I just bought parts from napa.
Ford - 99-03 Super Duty 7.3L - Intakes, Intercoolers & Related - Intake Systems & Replacement Filters - Riffraff Diesel Performance

Piece of cake.

Ain't no hijacking here.

Ok, call me stupid if you want, but, what are you guts referring to about the K&N filters that are bad? The filter itself or the enclosure?

The factory enclosure is known to be leaky. If you look at the clips and where the lid and body of the enclosure come together on many of them, a clip or two is missing and/or the lid is warped. If you add that to the K&N drop in filter, it is a recipe for dust getting into the turbo inlet and into the engine. This is a very bad thing, your turbo fins will show signs of being sand blasted by dirt particles, and the dirt will get into the cylinders and score the walls causing low compression.

Mine doesn't have a factory enclosure. It has something like a 2/3 box, made of steel with a K&N air filter clamped onto it.

In an instance this does happen, can you replace just the wheel, or does the entire turbo need replaced?

OK... you have a steel enclosure with a K&N filter. Do you have a photo you can upload and link to?

6637 - loud turbo and intake noise.
AIH - dead quiet in front.

That looks like an Air Raid, I believe. Either way, that SHOULD be fine if you keep up with the maintenance. Don't try that 1,000,000 miles, the dirtier it gets, the better it filters crap that K&N claims on their gasser filters.
