I just recently bought my first truck, it happens to be a 95' f150 it only has 147,500 miles on the stock engine (300 I6). However, the engine hardly runs, I know its got bad compression in all cylinders. It also throws oil everywhere. Is there any way to fix this problem without having to replace the motor? The starter won't start the engine, so I gotta pop the clutch to get the motor running. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
147,500 miles on one of these engines is actually considered to be not excessive, at all. My personal daily driver has 172,000+ miles and my son's has ~215K and neither have had any internal engine work.
However, if not well maintained, any engine can meet an early demise. If the engine truly has low compression in all cylinders [have you verified with a compression gauge?] and is losing oil in several places, it does not sound good.
When an engine has very low compression, it will spin very easily, but will be difficult to start. By bump starting in gear, the engine is likely being spun at a higher rate than by the starter.
Ask someone to do a compression test and perhaps a leak-down test. That will give you a good idea of the health of the engine and then you can make a better informed decision.
If it does indeed have that poor of compression, there isn't a lot you can do to remedy it without tearing down the engine and rebuilding it (unless you get lucky and all the cylinders have leaking valves, in which case it just needs the head rebuilt.)
But, with low compression like that, there isn't really a quick fix. The engine is simply worn out.
