Aw yeah man you know it! Best fair around! Yeah I spend tons of time in the tractor area and kinda wandering around. My dodge has the 5.7 hemi in it...I want to see what it can pull but I don't think its do too well. The ford however.......haha guess we'll see. She ain't a happy camper right now though...that 351 ain't quite big enough to haul her around and get her up to speed.

No doubt about it, all the other ones just aren't the same. I think you could do it in your ram. I looked up the classes at that fair and there is a 4x4 street stock 6500# class, might be fun to see what she can do. Then there's just a "diesel pickup" class, which is where I'd get stuck with all the new high hp diesels lol. Anyway, sounds like you need an idi Just kidding, good luck when you tow that load with it. It should do good with it.
I may try to see what the ram can do...sounds like fun! Then again it currently needs all new shocks and crap like that. Which sucks a$$ 'cause I'm broke at the moment. Oh well. Yeah you should try with your ford. Hey who knows maybe you'll do better than ya think?
The dodge needs $2500 in repairs to be usable. For that much or even half that you can have that ford dependable and more capable than that dodge would ever be. You could even do some engine upgrades to get more mpg and still be under that $2500.

You got that right. I checked in to towing the u haul trailer with the ford and the place I'm renting from said its fine. With that being said, the ford will be my towing truck. now I just gotta mount my sideview mirror and do some other stuff to it.
Guys...got some bad news...the ford cracked a piston in the engine. Kinda wondered why it wouldn't stop misfiring... I'll do a compression test on it if/when I get time to check out that issue more.
Dang that's a bummer, how imperative is the road trip anyway? Any way you have an older friend that could rent and drive, if you cover the all the rental, fuel and food cost's? And you ride shotgun and navigate?
I got a model railroad show coming up in 2 weeks down in Rockford, Il. I'm ~100 miles away up here in Wisconsin.
After all this, I've come to realize that I need some older friends lol. All mine are my age and oddly enough, are just getting their drivers licenses.
I'll look into that issue once I get a chance to. Ill try to describe the symptoms a bit. On a cold start, the engine rattles like rocks in a can until warmed up. Also takes a LONG time of cranking for the engine to start. Its got a slight miss while idling (can hear it in the exhaust), and is very pronounced (feels like bucking) while driving at around 55 mph. Also burns oil like a refinery (did an oil change last night...got 3 quarts OUT of it), and keeps pushing oil up out the PCV valve it seems.
I'm bringing a 12x5 table chopped into (4) 5x3 sections. On top of all the bins of stuff. Its a layout of original Lionel O scale trains from the 50's. Most of them are eBay finds or basement rescues that I'm working on restoring between shows. I'll look around and see if I can find someone to pool with. Right now the layout is literally half built and the control board is almost complete. Its got a long road ahead of it for such a short timespan...
Thanks for the wishes I think I can get it all done in time but it'll be close.
Dave sorry to hear about your truck man. If I lived closer I too would do what I could to help you out. Is there any chance either of your parents or any aunts or uncles could help you make the trip?
I think I could get someone to gimme a hand hauling the stuff if I reallllly need to. Hopefully I can finish the layout in time for the show! Then I can try to fix the truck...or at least diagnose it...
If you plan to rent an enclosed cargo trailer and you're just hauling stuff ..... have Uncle Bob a truck and drive for you. Buy him a bottle of Crown Royal and say pretty please.
Penske has some nice trucks and you can get 20% off the top if you have AAA. 24hr turnaround with all the insurance bells and whistles would barely reach $100.00 out of pocket (well and $30.00+ for the Crown)
