Hows it going everybody, so today I was on my way home from work enjoying the drive and I had a thought. I used to drive a 6.0 for work before I joined the Military and did all my due diligence with everything I read and when I left it was still in good running order. That being said, most of us who have owned or operated the 6.0s are pretty aware of what ICP numbers should be, FICM voltages, etc. Playing with my tuner allowed me to look at ICP and IPW and how it changes between KOEO, EO,Idle, etc. I would like for my own personal use and for everybody else out there to know what these numbers are supposed to be for my truck. I have emailed Ford, even though I know the chances are slim that it will make it to an actual engineer. I think that this will help with self diagnosis as our trucks age a little bit and will help out on the repair bill side. I want to just say before somebody else posts about it, that even though these machines are super high tech, there are still things that won't throw engine codes. For example when I broke my injector, the engine RAN great, but didn't throw a code. Now if it didn't have a leak but was somehow letting air get in, I think me finding the problem would have been a little more difficult. So for starters I let my engine idle for a good 10 minutes and my ICP KSI varied from 3.7-3.9. Now because I deleted my DPF and EGR and had the truck on the performance tune it might be different but I don't think so. Anybody please feel free to chime in, I appreciate all answers.
Tofan is a 6.7 guy. He was just using the 6.0 as a comparison to what he is trying to do with the 6.7. I think it is a good idea but my bet is with the guys around here you would never agree on values.
In my 6.0 days, I was friends with a few of the tuning gurus and learned a lot about all the tuning parameters that make the 6.0 tick. With the 6.7, I haven't pursued that knowledge. I need to update my Auto Enginuity so I can get a look at all this info. AE also sets max/min values for most items so you kind of get an idea from that.
Baseline 6.0 psd: FICM voltage good (check), High Pressure Oil good (check), Battery voltage good (check), ICP good (Check) Glow plugs good (check), Rev X oil additive added (check), EOT/ECT delta good (check) start engine.
Baseline 6.7 psd: Start engine and drive
Kidding aside we 6.7 owners really haven't had to get a handle on these type's of issues aside from the exhaust temp sensor codes.
I like your enthusiasm, but we need to get these and put them into a sticky. Clearly Ford has hit a home run with these engines, but I still want to get them. I mean eventually we will have 250k machines on our hands and people buying used ones and it would be nice to have those for those who have to do their own repairs. I spend an insane amount of time looking at parts cost vs other engines and they aren't really that bad. $374 for an injector(after you get core charge back of 180). You can even buy the whole HPFP system for 4k(Insane when you think about the 10k-15k they charge for a replacement of it), hopefully this will go down as time goes on. Also where everything is placed on the engine makes everything easier when replacing it. Now I don't know how true this is but the SMT who helped me with my truck told me that he doesn't even need to pull the cab to do a engine and transmission replacement. Just take off the front clip and pull out like you would normally do. Oil cooler, Fuel Cooler, etc are pretty easy to get too and replacing the serpentine belt doesn't look to be tough. One thing I want to get my hands on is the Helms Service Manual. Darren purchased it, but I want to buy it and upload it to the forum for everybody to use and look at.
On Sunday I had a minor freak out because my ECT was momentarily 20 degrees more than my EOT, then I realized this isn't a 6.0L. I still hawkeye those numbers but they seem to be significantly less important than they used to be.
I imaged Darren's copy of the service manual disc (thanks!) so I just mount the ISO file and use it even with devices without an optical disc drive like the tablet I keep in my truck. I would advise against uploading it TO the forum but instead having a link to it hosted elsewhere, I foresee management having issues with that material being uploaded and actually stored here. It's a grey area but I also copy and paste portions of the service manual during relevant discussion but I'm hoping that qualifies as fair use since it is a limited excerpt, rather than being the entire document. That said I applaud your good intentions though.
That sounds like it would be a better idea, I tried looking at the regulations for it, but as you said it's a grey area I would rather not test. Will shoot you a PM, thanks. For everybody else, I am gonna record my numbers for in the morning for Key On Engine Off, Cranking and finally idle. I'll post those numbers up here and maybe some of you guys with Tuners or Displays could do the same.
