Scan tool, data acquisition for odb1
Scan tool, data acquisition for odb1
I'm looking for a scan tool for obd1 that will read codes and also acquire data from all the sensors such as voltages and o2 sensor readings. Are there any such scan tools available for obd1 or is that only for obd2?
I've found an EASE Ford Pro scan obd1 scan tool that is supposed to get all that data while hooked to a laptop. Anybody have any experience with that? I don't want to spend thousands for a snap on tool or anything like that, but if there is a Ford specific tool or obd1 specific tool for a couple hundred dollars that would be more in my price range.
Thanks.

As far as I know there is no real time data available via the EEC test connector on these OBD1 Ford vehicles, you need a module that plugs into the J3 port on the rear of the computer itself to get that.
you need the SBDS system, which are essentially old, obsolete and out of print, but they did (will do) what you want. some mooks try to recoup the $50K entry price on ebay but I have seen a few for about $1000. but you need the cables as well.
I have the Actron CP9190 and it will do what you want.
It will also save the data so you can look at it on your computer.
You watch all the temps as you drive and it will tell you if you are running in open or closed loop.
But you need a 1994 or newer F-series OBD-1 computer for this but I can not confirm this I just know it works with my 1994 F53 OBD-1 computer and my 1995 F150 OBD-1 computer.
It will also work on the OBD-2 computers.
The one I bough and where:
http://www.amazon.com/Actron-CP9190-...3159387&sr=8-1
Sample output from my 1995 F150 5.0L @ idle:

It will also read codes and give you what they mean and how to correct them without going to a book.

Thanks subford, thats what I was looking for. It should work on my '95 too because it is almost exactly the same as yours. Does this plug into the service port under the hood or does it have to plug into the J3 port like conanski talked about?

It plugs in under the hood with a long cord.
After looking at diagrams I see the 1992 also has the data wires (pin #1 [915 PK/LB] & pin #3 [914 T/O]) on the EEC self-test plug.
So it might be some 1992 5.0L with E4OD, 4.9L & 5.8L and up may have the data to output and not 94 and up.
But not the 1992 5.0L W/O E4OD and the 7.5L trucks.
You would have to check your EEC self-test plug for the data wires.
