But, there are differences between these 1978/79 columns: 2WD or 4WD? A/T or M/T? With or without a tilt steering column?
Which part(s) are defective?

How urgent is this and where are you located? I will be swapping out my column in two weeks. The only things wrong are that the shift indicator is broken and shifter connection is partially busted, It works though and parts inside can be used to make yours whole. It came off a 79. It will be free plus shipping if you are interested.

73-mid 77 (I believe) has a different main electrical plug for turning signals ect...and safety neutral switch is on the column (for an auto trans).
77.5 to 79, safety neutral is on the transmission, for an automatic transmission truck.
Might be ahead to just get the parts to repair yours....

1967/77: NSS located on the column, same for all A/T's / 1978/79: NSS located on trans, C4 uses a different NSS than C6.
77.5 (not FoMoCo terminology) only pertains to F250 4WD's, as the last Highboy (not FoMoCo terminology) was assembled mid-model year 1977 that occurred in February.
1973/77 T/S switches different than 1978/79.
