So, I decided to take apart my steering column to change out the signal switch. I being a dough head decided to pull and go the rough route - not knowing what I was doing, but ended up with a steering column that dosen't work at all any more. I seems as though I "stretched " something inside and it just turns when I put it back together. I found a little snap ring at the bottom, that I can't seem to get our, but am wondering if this is repairable, or is it easier/cheaper to find another one? It is a 2wd automatic, column shift, but with manual steering. From what I can see it is different from a power steering column. I bolted in a 79 tilt, power steering column but was about 2-3/8" short when bolting up to the steering box. Any ideas? Does anyone have on of these column's for sale? How much?
I had some issues with my 77 column as well. Mine is a manual column shift with power steering but I also had problems with new parts with the old ones when I was re-building the shift linkage. I ended up having a guy at a 4wd shop weld some metal onto part of the new shifter linkage to make it longer. 77 was a split year for the f-series trucks. My working theory is that the mixture of parts between the pre-77 and post-77 trucks makes for a unique steering column. You either get the early one or the late one.
You could try a pre-77 column, or I would suggest if nobody has more info than me soon and you grow impatient, go to Jeff's bronco graveyard and see if somebody there will tell you what you need. They will also sell it to you for a good price.

Split year only applies to 1977 F250 4WD's. Before serial number Y20,001 are High Boys. From serial number Y20,001 are not High Boys.
1973/77 F100/350: The only differences in the steering columns are with/without A/T, with/without 4WD, with/without P/S. 1976/77 4WD columns are different from 1973/75 4WD columns.
1973/77: There are three different T/S switches: With M/S, with P/S, with Speed Control (1975/77).
1967/77 F100/350 with A/T: There is one Neutral Safety Switch, mounts on steering column.
1978/79 steering columns are different than 1973/77's. And are also different depending on 2WD or 4WD, with/without P/S, with/without A/T, with/without tilt wheel.
There are two different Neutral Safety Switches, that are transmission mounted.
I just replaced my turn signal switch and it was fairly easy with the exception of the wiring. I had to punch each wire and that took the most time. It is fairly straight forward and not many ways to make a mistake. I had a broken shifter and ordered the new part from LMC along with the turn signal. I removed the dash to make it easy to get to the wiring. If the parts Guru does not have time to walk you through it I can help.
