Trans. oil & filter change question.

I will be changing the trans. oil & filter in my truck for the first time. I was wondering if my 1990 F-150 X-cab XLT 302 efi Auto. 2WD, had a drainable converter and if so how many quarts would it take to fill it and the pan? I was also thinking of changing the rear end fluid but did not know which fluid to use? Just for info. the truck was my dad's and it has 292,000 miles. He bought the truck new and has handed it down to me. I'm trying to do all the preventive maint. that I can.
Thanks

No help with the trans, but the rear differential takes 80w 90 gear oil. Pop the cover off and let it drain out. Slip a new gasket in, put the cover back on, and fill it up until it runs out the hole.

Thanks andym. I was told that I also needed to add friction modifier because it's a limited-slip diff. Are you aware of this or is that incorrect?

You were informed correctly.

Although, after 300k miles, it's debatable how much slip your differential is limiting.

Trans. oil & filter change question.

I checked my door pillar sticker today and the trans. code is T and the rear axle code is H9. Not sure what this means though?

Trans. oil & filter change question.

The torque converter is drainable, if it is an aod or 4r70w take the cover off the bottom front of the bell housing and rotate the motor to bring the drain plug to the bottom. If you have an E4OD remove the rubber plug in the bottom of the housing, rotate the motor til the drain plug lines up.
You are right that you need to add friction modifier to the rear end when changing the oil.

Trans. oil & filter change question.

T is the code for an AOD, and H9 is a 8.8" 3.55:1 factory LS axle.

Trans. oil & filter change question.

I went to Auto Zone today to buy the trans. filter and the guy asked me how many bolts my pan had. I told him that I did not know but that it was a code T. He said that he showed three diffrent filters for my truck and that he needed to know how many bolts were on the pan. I guess I'll count them tomorrow.
Does anyone know how much fluid I'll need to fill up the converter and the pan?
Thanks for the help so far!

Trans. oil & filter change question.

Finding the right filter for my 78 4x4 was a trick too. The book at the store I went to showed 3 filter possibilities. Of course the first one I got was wrong, so I got the other two and returned the one I didn't need. You can also take the old one in for comparison.
